League City, TX (October 17, 2024): League City Police Officers, with the assistance of the Texas Department of Public Safety, Houston Police Department, and several other agencies, have arrested 41-year-old suspect, Olajuwon Smith of Texas City. Smith was arrested and charged with Possession of Controlled Substance PG 1 =4g
On October 16, 2024, at approximately 2:39 p.m., League City Police Officers stopped a gray 2011 Audi Q7 in the parking lot of Cracker Barrel, 231 S Gulf Fwy, after observing a moving traffic violation (Fail to Signal Lane Change). Officers contacted the driver, Olajuwon Smith, and developed reasonable suspicion of narcotic-related activity. A K9 Unit was then requested at the stop location for assistance.
Prior to the K9 Unit’s arrival, Smith drove the Audi away at a high rate of speed. LCPD Officers began pursuing the Audi with emergency lights and sirens activated. The pursuit went from League City, through Webster and into Houston. The Houston Police Department’s helicopter unit and patrol officers, the Texas Department of Public Safety and several other agencies assisted during the pursuit.
At approximately 3:58 p.m., the helicopter unit advised the Audi wrecked into two vehicles near the intersection of Gessner Rd and W Gulf Bank Rd in Houston. The Audi then came to a stop in the driveway of an apartment complex in the 7200 block of Gessner Rd. Smith exited the vehicle and began running through the complex and across Windfern Rd. DPS Troopers apprehended Smith in the 7100 block of White Oak Cir and placed him in custody at approximately 4:02 p.m. Smith was then transported by Cy-Fair Fire/EMS to a local hospital for medical evaluation/treatment.
DPS Troopers conducted the investigation of the traffic collision at Gessner Rd and W Gulf Bank. Thank you to all agencies who assisted during this incident.
