The Hazard Mitigation Plan evaluates hazards that have the potential to affect the city, analyzes historical data of past events, and develops action items designed to mitigate the effects of future disasters or hazardous events. Hazards having the highest potential of affecting a large portion of the city’s population and infrastructure are:

  • Drought
  • Flood events
  • Hurricane/Storm Surge
  • Hurricane/Wind
  • Severe Thunderstorms
  • Storms/Hail/Lightning
  • Subsidence
  • Tornadoes

Current Plan

The City of Friendswood participates in two multi-jurisdictional plans: the Galveston County Hazard Mitigation Plan, adopted June 6, 2022, and the Harris County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Action Plan, adopted June 1, 2020.

2025 Plan Update

The Harris County Multi-Jurisdiction Hazard Mitigation Plan update for 2025 has begun.
