The Friendswood Police Department received a report on March 3, 2025 in regards to possible theft/fraud involving an insurance scam. The victim advised that they had been using an insurance broker, Edgar Peralta with Peralta Insurance Brokerage LLC, for several years to purchase their homeowner, auto, and flood insurance. The victim stated it was recommended in May of 2024 to pre-purchasing these policies for the upcoming year, and the agent would be able to save them a great deal of money.

After a traffic stop in January 2025, it was discovered that the insurance policy on the vehicle was not valid. The victim contacted the insurance company and verified the auto policy had been cancelled due to non-payment of the premiums. It was also discovered that the homeowners and flood insurance policies were also cancelled for non-payment. The victim had records of sending wired payments to Peralta for the policies, which he was supposed to have paid, however, the money was never sent to the insurance companies. The victim then discovered that Peralta’s state license to sell insurance had been revoked/cancelled in June of 2024, and he was continuing to attempt to fraudulently broker insurance policies.

Edgar Peralta has been charged with Theft, a State Jail Felony, through the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office. He turned himself into the Friendswood Police Department on Thursday, April 10, 2025 without incident.

Friendswood PD has also reported this incident to the Texas Department of Insurance, and they are conducting their own investigation into the matter and the suspect could face further criminal charges.

We are recommending that residents verify all of their insurance policies through the insurance companies, not the agents to avoid a lapse in their coverage and potential theft.
